Among the most spectacular hikes in the Aosta Valley, the trail to the Cascate del Rutor is a must for nature lovers and those seeking breathtaking alpine landscapes. Located above La Thuile, these waterfalls are fed by the Rutor glacier and descend in three impressive cascades, among the most powerful in the region.
The route begins at La Joux, a small village a few kilometres from the centre of La Thuile, and follows a trail that gradually leads to the first, second and third waterfalls. The first cascade can be reached in about 20 minutes, while reaching the highest waterfall takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes of hiking.
The path crosses forests of larch and fir trees and offers several panoramic viewpoints where visitors can admire the force of the water and the surrounding alpine scenery. The full hike has an elevation gain of about 450–550 metres and is classified as E (hiking level), suitable for hikers with a basic level of fitness.
